Welcome to Marist NH Junior Rugby.
Juniors encompass grades from the older kids in J1, J2, J3, J4; first years of tackle in J5 & J6, through to J7 & J8 Rippa grades for the young ones. We also offer the Girls and Boys Rippa and Rip Rugby non-tackle grades as outlined below.

*Players must be turning 5 by 30th June 2025 to be eligible to play.

Your child will be playing either Tackle Rugby (J1-J6)*, Rippa Rugby (J7-J8) or Girls/Boys Rip Rugby (U9's-U17's).


*Note: The grade your child gets put into will depend on their age and weight.

If this is your child’s first year at Marist, please bring evidence of their D.O.B. – Passport or Birth Certificate.

We make every effort to balance our teams across the grades to ensure that each team has a similar performance within the same grade. We always endeavour to recognise the requests by parents for their child to stay with a particular team, but this could mean from year to year, that players may not stay with the same group of players, but be allocated to different teams and coaches.

Players must wear the Marist Rugby shorts and socks for all games. These are to be purchased online (see Shop in menu above). Sizes will be available at our Weigh In sessions for you to look at. 

All players will be supplied with a playing jersey on game days (returned end of season).

*Mouth guards are compulsory.


Weigh In Sessions 2025


Once you have registered your child online to play Junior Rugby for 2025, we invite all players to attend ONE welcome session - this will be an opportunity to weigh in and size your kit gear for the season. 

*Note: those playing in J1 to J6 (tackle grades) MUST attend a Weigh-In session.

    • Tuesday 11th March 5pm-6.30pm
    • Thursday 13th March 5pm-6.30pm
    • Saturday 15th March 2pm-4pm
    • Tuesday 18th March 5pm-6.30pm
    • Thursday 20th March 5pm-6.30pm
    • Sunday 23rd March 10am-11.30am – FINAL WEIGH IN

2025 Information Sheet
An information sheet is emailed/given out to to all players who register (coming Feb 2025). 

​​​​​​​2025 Registration Fees 

Fees for 2025 are as follows (includes $30 Union Levy):

  • 1 Player - $140.00
  • 2 Players (same family) - $240.00
  • 3 Players (same family) - $340.00 

Fees for 2025 are to be paid using our online facility. When you submit your registration form, you will be prompted to pay.

We have payment plan options avaliable - we have a no pay, no play policy. 


Grades

All Marist Junior Rugby is played on Saturday mornings at various rugby venues around North Harbour.


J1, J2 Tackle Rugby

  • 10-12 year olds (age as at 1st Jan)
  • 1 or 2 training nights during the week
  • Trainings are between 4-6pm
  • Play on a full field
  • 15-a-side
  • Games are usually between 10:40am - 1:00pm.

J3, J4, J5 Tackle Rugby

  • 7-11 year olds (age as at 1st Jan)
  • 1 training night during the week
  • Trainings are between 4-6pm
  • Play on a half field
  • 10-a-side
  • Games are usually between 9:30am - 11:50am

J6 Tackle Rugby

  • 6-9 year olds (age as at 1st Jan)
  • 1 training night during the week
  • Trainings are between 4-6pm
  • Play on a quarter field
  • 7-a-side
  • Games are usually between 9:30am - 11:50am

J7, J8 Rippa Rugby

  • 5-7 year olds (age as at 1st Jan)
  • 1 training night during the week
  • Trainings are between 4-6pm
  • Play on a quarter field
  • 7-a-side
  • Games are usually between 8:00am - 9:30am


Boys Rippa & Rip Rugby

  • Boys U9 Rippa for 7-8 year olds (age as at 1st Jan)
  • Boys U11 Rip Rugby for 9-10 year olds (age as at 1st Jan)
  • Boys U13 Rip Rugby for 11-12 year olds (age as at 1st Jan)
  • No weight restriction
  • For those keen on a non-contact game of rugby
  • 1 training night during the week
  • Trainings are between 4-6pm
  • Play on a half field
  • 7-a-side
  • Games are usually between 9:30am - 1:00pm


Girls Rippa & Rip Rugby

  • Girls U9 Rippa for 7-8 year olds (age as at 1st Jan)
  • Girls U11 Rip Rugby for 9-10 year olds (age as at 1st Jan)
  • Girls U13 Rip Rugby for 11-12 year olds (age as at 1st Jan)
  • Girls U15 Rip Rugby for 13-14 year olds (age as at 1st Jan)
  • Girls U17 Rip Rugby for 15-16 year olds (age as at 1st Jan)
